Prior to the commencement of a Civil case in the U.A.E, mediation must occur through the following committees in the interest of saving time and legal costs to both Parties and the Courts:
- Commercial disputes resolution committees
- Family guidance committees
- Settlement and reconciliation committees
- Rental dispute resolution committees
- Labour dispute resolution committees
Should the mediation process be unsuccessful the Civil case will commence once the concerned claim is filed before the Court of First Instance? All claims must specifically mention the basis of the claim and the appropriate remedy that the Claimant wishes to obtain. Once a judgment has been reached in the Court of First Instance, it may be appealed by at the Appeal Court. The judgment reached by the Appeal Court may be challenged at the Court of Cassation, which serves as the highest judicial Court in each respective Emirate and will hear disputes that range from criminal, personal and civil rights to verdicts and suits.
